Growth and Quality Response of Four Container-grown Nursery Crop Species to Low-phosphorus Controlled-release Fertilizer

چکیده

The amount of phosphorus (P) conventionally recommended and applied to container nursery crops commonly exceeds plant requirements, resulting in unused P leaching from containers potentially contributing surface water impairment. An experiment was replicated the Middle Atlantic Coastal Plain (MACP) Ridge Valley ecoregions Virginia compare effect a low-P controlled-release fertilizer (CRF, 0.9% or 1.4% depending on species) vs. conventional CRF formulation (control, 1.7% P) shoot growth, crop quality, substrate nutrient concentrations four species: ‘Natchez’ crape myrtle ( Lagerstroemia indica × fauriei ), ‘Roblec’ Encore azalea Rhododendron hybrid), ‘Radrazz’ Knock Out rose Rosa ‘Green Giant’ arborvitae Thuja plicata standishii ). In both ecoregions, resulted 9% 26% lower dry weight all species compared with those given formulation, but quality ratings for two economically important species, arborvitae, were similar between treatments. When fertilized CRF, MACP ecoregion had ∼56% 75% pore-water than that received control CRF. Nitrate-nitrogen (N) pore at week 5 more six times greater control-fertilized plants which may have been result urea-N content heterogeneous nature CRFs. Lower water-extractable N indicate less environmental risk increased efficiency. Our results suggest CRFs can be used produce certain ornamental successfully without sacrificing quality; however, early adopters will need evaluate specific before implementing large scale.

Controlled Release Fertilizer Improves Quality of Container Longleaf Pine Seedlings

In an operational trial, increasing the amount of nitrogen (N) applied to container longleaf pine seedlings by incorporating controlled release fertilizer (CRF) into the media improved seedling growth and quality. Compared with control seedlings that received 40 mg N, seedlings receiving 66 mg N through CRF supplemented with liquid fertilizer had needles that were 4 in (10 cm) longer as well as...

Growth and Photosynthetic Response of Pot-in-pot-grown Conifers to Substrate and Controlled-release Fertilizer

Container production of landscape conifers, including pot-in-pot (PIP) production, is increasing relative to field production in the northern United States. Because much of the research on PIP has been performed in the southern United States, this study focused on characterizing the growth and physiological response of PIP-grown conifers to fertilizer and substrate to improve production for gro...

Identification of soybean circular RNAs in response to low nitrogen and phosphorus stress

Soybean, one of the most important sources of edible oil and protein in the world, is exposed to various environmental biotic and abiotic stresses. These stresses can negatively impact the quality and quantity of soybean production. This study aimed to identify genes that express circular RNAs in response to low phosphorus and nitrogen stresses in soybean roots. Soybean seeds were grown under d...
